Definitely not as good as name brand, and not even that great for generic.

I'm in the process of packing up for a cross-country move and am going through a ridiculous amount of tape. The last time I did a move like this, I bought name brand tape -- it worked like a charm and I had nothing to complain about, other than the price. Because of the higher price point though, I decided to try out an off-brand or generic version this time around, and decided to give this tape a shot based on price point for the number of rolls and the overall positive reviews.Having used a few rolls now, I feel like I can give a pretty honest and informed review -- and honestly, it's "meh". The tape is certainly better than dollar store or other super cheap quality clear packing tape, but it's definitely not as good as 3M or Duck brand. It sticks well enough, and there's no smell, but I do find it gets caught up in itself a little bit easier if I turn or angle the tape while applying. Also, it works okay if you're using a handheld tape roller/dispenser, but if you're just applying by hand and cutting with a scissor as you go, I'd suggest going with another brand -- the tape splits a good 70 to 75% of the time for me when I'm trying to peel back by hand as it's not as thick or sturdy as the name brand stuff. Since there's a house of us packing and we only have two tape rollers (and half the time can only find the one when we need it.), we end up taping by hand a lot and it's super inconvenient. I also sell stuff online and prefer to hand apply/cut tape for shipping envelopes, and I end up wasting a lot of tape from it splitting. I've not had the issues with deformed cores that others have, but I'm also going through it pretty quick so maybe I haven't had enough time for it to happen.Overall, this is fine, but not great; I'm likely just going to spend a little extra to buy brand name next time so that I don't have to worry about the splitting. If you want to save a few bucks and don't mind that, or are planning to use a dispenser, this might be fine; otherwise, spend the extra money for the 3M or Duck brand tape.Edit: have now used several roles in the dispenser, and they're not great or easy to use in that either -- the tape is actually pretty tacky so it's gotten stuck on the dispenser a few times when rolling it out, and I have issues with it getting caught on itself when rolling it out, which causes it to twist and stick to itself. Again, if you want to save a few bucks, it could be worth it for you? But definitely not something I'd buy again.

Pros
  • Tape was thick. Had a hard time rapidly cutting it. The upside was it is strong.
Cons
  • The tape may not be tear-proof in all cases
