Replaced my old unit (which lasted almost 10 years) with this one. It connected quickly and easily to my late 2011 MacAir and was recognized immediately. File transfer was fast too. The USB cable is quite heavy and should be fine for many uses, but it's also quite stiff resulting in the device not lying completely flat on my desk, which isn't a huge downside as it still works well. The finish is nice and fits my Mac perfectly. Hope it lasts as long as my old one. However, I am very happy with it when you have it out of the box. The price was right too.
