Visually this is a very well made radio. Handles and front decoration are made of metal. The wooden case feels solid and I believe it's made out of fiberboard, resin and something that gives the impression of a wooden texture. The interior has several unsuccessful design options. First off, the fact that the case is open front and back with false speaker grilles. The speaker requires either a tuned or sealed enclosure, but this design allows the rear wave to open up along with the speaker's front wave, making it sound "tinny". This can be fixed with some modifications as shown in the second image. I removed the side speakers and bought 2 x 5" 8 ohm speakers for the front and then hot glued them in place. I then bought two 3" speakers that bolt to the back and are rear facing. I have those Speaker side grilles sealed so the enclosure acts like a sealed box The sound output is noticeably fuller and richer I also replaced the antenna cable with a monopole antenna and got a better signal This upgrade is worth the investment but it's a shame that Pyle didn't bother spending a few extra dollars because it's a great device.
