Looking for a good portable audio solution I came across this in an audio science review. I was surprised to see how amazing the performance of such a small device can be, it works just as well as a great desktop DAC. The only difference between this and a full desktop setup is the headphone output, but that really isn't an issue for its intended use. It handles all my full-size headphones, portable and open-back headphones very well. I've even used it with a USB audio player pro and tried using a parametric equalizer with multiple filters and -5.5dB preamp gain and Hidiz still had the power to crank the headphones up loud with lots of volume clicks remaining and no audible distortion bring level. . I also tried sennheiser hd560s and the situation was the same, no more audible distortion and no more volume. I think it's a bit out of scope for its intended purpose, but it works admirably. I've seen some complaints about the included USB cables, but who cares I immediately bought a cablecreations gold plated USB cable with the plug/length I wanted for $7 and it's actually better than the supplied imo cables so what a small price The level of performance you get here for $80. These products raise the bar for everyone, and consumers rightly pay a good premium for premium products and deserve a good product in return. Hidizs s8 is a real premium product, compact but with high performance and build. The outer frame is made from a single piece of aluminum and the front and back panels are glass-coated gloss black glass. It looks and feels way better than I expected.
