To get used to my all-metal external hard drive, this case is thinner than I expected, but that's the difference between getting used to metal. This is enough to protect the drive. This is a simple enclosure for a 3.5" SATA hard drive - essentially a tool-free solution: just open the enclosure, insert the drive and close the enclosure. Ready. After connecting to On My Computer (MBAir) it launched DiskUtility as it couldn't see the drive but it was a new drive that needed formatting. The format took less than 30 seconds and the drive booted up as a volume on my system. I believe foam padding acts as a buffer when the case is on its side, but since the drive itself fits into the SATA connector, I just lay it on the table. Comes with a power cord and a USB 3.0 connection cable. The only thing I don't like is the way the ports are located where the power button is. It seems strange to me, but it is by no means a determining factor. For the price and ease of use, it was worth buying.
