Revainrating 5 out of 5

Significant wireless speed improvement

I was having trouble with my Comcast Internet speed not being what I paid for. After trying a new router it helped but I must have moved the antennas to it and despite 4 or 5 out of 5 "Antenna Strength Bars" I didn't get more than half the speed I should have. It wasn't immediately recognized in win8 for me as some people have said. He was not identified and the light was not on. After downloading the bundled installer from the CD, the drivers worked on reboot. Some people say it doesn't work well on Win 8.1 unless you install the generic Realtek 8812AU chipset drivers found online. I like the base. A device with antennas is bulky and allows for better positioning away from the base. I've found it to deliver 50+ Mbps over both the USB 2.0 port and the 3.0 port, so don't worry if you don't have a free 3.0 port. As long as it lasts a few years I would give it 5 stars. I might use this in other situations, for example if you have space outside or in an RV or a room away from your router and want a decent signal. I see a lot more neighborhood routers with it than with Wi-Fi installed on my computer. If we went back to the days of mostly insecure routers, this article could provide free internet access. Oh one last thought, I wanted to try the 5GHz band which is available on my router and not visible to my laptop. The speeds were the same 2.4 vs. 5 GHz. UPDATE: A year later and with heavy use, it still works. I still give 5 stars.
