I like that it can be used to fit different types of statistical methods, including ANOVA (as well as GLM). It's also very flexible so you don't have any limitations when using this program compared with other R packages such us lme4 or nnet etc.. The documentation could use some improvements but there are online tutorials which help quite much in learning how everything works here - just search "ASrem" plus tutorial topic! As an example : 1) You need both versions 3 & 4; 2/3.) For each model fitted via REML method we should get information about convergence by looking at trace plots / autocorrelation functions ; if your dataset has many predictors then try setting up cross validation procedures before running full analyses eithout checking first whether they converge properly!
