Doesn't magnify 3x

I chose this viewer because it says 3x magnification. Although the screen is 3 inches, the image is more like 1 1/4 inches x 1 3/4 inches, so I'm a bit disappointed. Loading and unloading slides is easy as the top edge always sticks out which seems to be a problem for others. Another slightly annoying feature is,

SIMPLE AND SUPER EASY TO USE: The Porta Slide 2x2 slide viewer is battery operated and only requires 2 AA batteries (not included). You can then grab the slide, insert it into the top slot and the image will automatically appear on the preview screen. The color slide viewer is press activated, which makes it very easy to use.
