You need phantom power. The USB connection has a high-pitched ringing tone, and even if you just plug in headphones, you'll hear ringing all the time. The filter is under the microphone. Have found I still can't use it because I still have to be right at the mic. The arm clip is good but I mount it on a bookshelf but often when trying to adjust my arm the clip slips right off the mic. Regal no matter how I tighten it. The mic is good, but I have to keep my mouth right on the foam rubber to pick up conversations and whispers with phantom power. With basic sound adjustments like bass and treble boost, the sound is excellent.
