Bought the card after reading the reviews and seeing people update the BIOS to a newer version using the SiI bios update utility or remove the pseudo-raid functionality; As a ZFS user, the only thing the Raid feature gave me was an increase in load time. Unfortunately the card I received has a WinBond W39F010 bios chip which is *not* supported by Silicon Image's bios update utility. Considering that Syba doesn't update the BIOS for their products (they generally rely on the chip manufacturer), it's safe to say that this card can't be updated with the supplied BIOS (it was a 2006 bios for me ). no later than 2010). It's unknown what the card will or will not support in the future (I don't have AF drives to test with this card to see if it recognizes them or not), but I would stay away from this card until Syba or Silicon Image releases a utility to update the card (or you can always replace the bios chip with one that is supported if you're a soldering iron lover). On the other hand, if you really don't care, the card works out of the box and is supported by Windows. Can't comment on the RAID capabilities as I don't use them. Note for FreeBSD or FreeNAS users: FreeBSD 9 recognizes the card and boots it via the Siis driver, but it doesn't see the attached hard drives - I suspect it's the BIOS. I've tried connecting a 1TB drive and a 3TB driver and the OS doesn't recognize either of them.
