They don't make the like they used to

I have one of these original versions from the 70s or 80s when it was called "run yourself ragged". My nephew loves playing it when he comes over so I thought I'd get him one. It's a very very cute game but the one I got doesn't work. The "bars section" doesn't work. You're supposed to open them slightly to get the ball rolling then close them so it doesn't fall through. But these never close. At the closed position. They're always slightly open. The perfect amount actually so that you don't have to do anything. Just don't touch it and you completely bypass this section.I got my old one for $10 at a thrift store. For $28 and not being almost 40 years old you'd think it would work better. The old one has looser controls too which is better. These are stiff. But I imagine they'd break un eventually. But one of the sections doesn't work. I'm going to return this one and try to find another old one for him. However, screwball scramble 2 is awesome and I love that it links to the first one for an extra long obstacle course. How have they not marketed an "America ninja warrior" one of these? That's basically what it is. Very clever game idea. I love my old working one.

Pros
  • Suitable for children of various ages
Cons
  • The game can become too predictable, reducing replay value
