Our 2001 Sequoia's tailgate latch started going crazy a few years ago. It doesn't stay locked. After lubricating the situation with WD-40 and silicone grease about every month, which temporarily fixed the situation, the current locking mechanism finally gave out for good and wouldn't engage at all. This part fit perfectly and I installed it within an hour. There are cheaper replacements available but I thought the original lasted almost 20 years so hopefully this one will too. And remember, if your latch handle keeps breaking, it could be due to a stuck/old/rusty latch mechanism. So do not replace the handles, replace this part as it can cause the problem.
