I felt I didn't need to install another app on my phone and just set it up with the Smart Life app. They take a 123A battery, which lasts a long time and isn't very expensive. The sensors are very sensitive and require no cords or wires, they sit directly on the surface to be monitored and beep when about 1/16 inch of water hits them. The devices are a bit tricky to turn on and off to disconnect the top and bottom to connect the battery and press the reset button to pair with the app, some very small marks to help you are hard to recognize.
