Top quality power supply

This is my first experience with a Tripp Lite regulated power supply. I have five other brands of PSUs and chose the TrippLite 60A (48A continuous). So far, after about ten hours of use, it has worked well. I will say that this unit generates a significant amount of heat, which is why I am running a unit with a 6" external fan behind the back corner of the PS that keeps the unit cool. I would recommend if you are running it with high sustained loads or large high power devices to use a fan. The output of PS is clean. After about a month of use, the ON/OFF rocker switch threw a spark off the front of the PS when turned on. This is usually a sign that the switch is deteriorating. Overall this is a three star quality device and I would suggest looking at other brands. After contacting TrippLite about my concerns and exchanging emails about the excessive heat and spark emitted by the switch, I am not satisfied with the speed, concern or interest expressed by the service department. Again, if you don't want to be stuck with servicing your own power supply, I would consider other brands. For now I have taken the PR60 out of service before the overhaul. The overall impression is two stars at best. Update 3/4/2020: I received a replacement power supply from TrippLite, but I had to pay to ship the failed unit back to TrippLite via UPS for $41. Most manufacturers will cover the cost of a returned product that they did not manufacture. Update 6/19/20: The replaced PR60 has started to produce repeated transformer knocks known as magnetostriction when switched on. This creates a loud pop in the transformer about once a second. This is usually due to inrush current issues. I was able to modify the circuit to alleviate the inrush current problem and correct the cyclic magnetostrictive shock, but unless you have the knowledge and experience or time to repair failed power supplies I can't do these power supplies recommend. Now these are two PR60 power supplies with separate problems. FYI, Tripp Lite makes a lot of good products, but the PR60 doesn't seem to be one of them.

Pros
  • Solid state integrated circuit provides excellent output voltage regulation
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
