I installed these to help my disabled husband. They are very strong and hold quite a bit of weight as described. However, they are quite large, so they still look a little institutional, but not as bad as a regular handrail. Delta makes one that looks smaller than the ADA but also has a much smaller gripper stem. So if you need a really strong grip, this is the one for you. slightly upwards so that the toilet paper is better held on it. I've slipped toilet paper off mine a few times when it hits. This has only happened a couple of times, so it's not a big deal, but it's easy to avoid if you set it up at a very slight tilt. When we installed ours I had to remove a recessed toilet paper holder in one bathroom. Then we had the problem of what to do with the hole in the wall. A builder friend of mine suggested mounting the oak panel to the wall and then simply drilling and screwing it straight in. The oak pad is screwed into the knobs and the toilet paper holder is screwed directly into the oak. It is very durable. We made the oak base long enough to go through two studs to ensure it's strong. This meant we didn't have to drill another large hole in the drywall to attach the toilet paper holder. In another bathroom, for some reason, the entire wall next to the toilet was fixed so we didn't have to worry about where to put the screws. They all fit snugly into the solid wood so we didn't have to worry about drilling a big hole in the wall. If you're remodeling and have a choice, ask for a pad to be installed between the posts so you can screw on items. so straight into solid wood so you don't have to drill big holes for the anchors. The only other downside was that there were no screws in the kit to drive them into studs or hardwood, only dowels. I had to buy long screws to make sure it was secure.
