Review on πŸ“Ί Sling Media SlingCatcher SC100-100 TV Media Player: A Versatile Universal Option with Enhanced Searchability by James Stjames

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good but not great. Hopefully future firmware updates will improve this.

I would actually give that 3 1/2 stars right now, but considering Slingmedia has promised a firmware update later this quarter at CES that will bring Slingcatcher to HD streaming content I'll give it an extra 1/2 star in anticipation of a better streaming experience. Here's my setup: I have a Slingbox Pro-HD connected via a Linksys Powerline adapter in the same room and a Slingcatcher connected to an Apple Airport Express. Many people commented on the lack of wireless connectivity and gave negative reviews because of it. Only factor this into your hardware costs if you don't have an Ethernet connection near the Slingcatcher. The Slingbox is connected to my DirecTV DVR in one room and the Slingcatcher in the bedroom is connected to a 26 inch HD LCD TV. Setup was fairly easy (I spent several hours setting up my Slingbox Pro-HD on my network) as my Slingbox and computer running the Slingcatcher Projector software were recognized immediately. observable. It feels like I'm watching average quality streaming videos on the internet on my TV. Definitely not replacing my DirecTV HD box, but I don't mind that I won't sit on it and watch a few shows. I hope the quality will be much better when HD streaming becomes available. The Slingcatcher projector software works quite well with decent results and quality. I've also experimented and hooked up the Slingcatcher to a regular 20" SDTV I have. The quality on an SDTV of this size is actually very good. I don't feel like this is an internet video that will be televised. I'm seriously considering ditching the DirecTV set-top box attached to this TV and replacing it with a Slingcatcher (which eliminates the $5/month box fee that DirecTV charges me). I rarely use this TV except when I'm working out. In general, the prefix does what it's billed for. It can be a bit pricey right now for the quality it streams (but definitely more reasonable than the price it originally started at) and also for the lack of wireless connectivity. Hopefully the updates will make it much better.
