My cat has a medium length coat. I bought 2 brushes from this listing, A and B as pictured. Since I didn't really know what the difference was based on the descriptions and I couldn't figure out which would be best for my cat, I wanted to return one but kept both. under the top layer, then I use B to put it all together. A - absolute garbage for collecting furs; it basically just falls off the brush and goes back to my cat, but does an excellent job of doing a job that B can't. In my opinion, brush A is absolutely useless on its own. Brush B is a simple grooming brush that picks up hairs as it moves. It doesn't have a trigger mechanism to pull the fur out, so you have to grab it between the tines with your fingers. A bit awkward, but yes. The pins are also very thin and prone to bending; Because of this, I expect to need to replace this brush within a year of purchase. Aside from that, the 2 brush combo has extra steps and can make a bit of a mess, but helps us a lot in controlling my cat's shedding. .TL;DR Use brush A if you have another brush to pick up the fur. It doesn't have a good fur catcher. Get a B if you want a simple grooming brush that lifts the coat. Bonus terribly unflattering picture of my cat
