I don't have much space so the litter box is in the closet. This does an excellent job of keeping out the smell (although I clean the litter box every other day so it might be different if it stays there longer) and flying debris when she digs. Small steps actually catch the trash! Between that and the garbage mat with the gravity hole, I actually limited garbage tracking. It's a little weird getting used to putting on a top, but it works. My cat didn't want to close the tray at first. I placed a cup with her used filling along with the new filling to convince her it was her tray and it worked like magic. That being said, my cat has never had a great fondness for bowls or litter, except that she used to dislike closed ones. I use Target brand unscented regular weight litter and it works great with this tray.
