I kept convincing myself that my wrist hurt cleaning six large kitty litters. NOT because of the grip, but it was. The long handle and comfortable design allow you to reach the pen from a longer distance and not get the dirty pen so close to your face. But I know that while the foam padding feels solid, the ergonomics and straight handle don't create the leverage that real ergonomic tools create. 8 years later I replaced the standard length spoon with an ergonomic handle and it never tired my wrist. . And I know since I have a very odd looking but ergonomic snow shovel that its swaying horse design gives me great options for dealing with the heavy Chicago snow. So if you have very healthy and strong wrists, you will like this sturdy shovel for its long reach. But if you're really looking for an ergonomic design and its benefits, I don't think this shovel will fit.
