This works fine as a bagel cutter BUT sometimes the bagel can hit the blade off center. This will give you an unevenly cut bagel BUT the big problem is that in this case the blade cuts into the plastic notch on the bottom of the device. That means plastic shavings end up on the bagel over time. To fix this, the manufacturer needs to install a steel blade guide on the bottom of the device. This also extends the life of the slicer. That being said, it does a good job of slicing bagels if you keep an eye on possible shavings.
