Review on πŸ“€ Daewoo DV6T955B DVD / VCR Combo: The Ultimate Multimedia Solution by Jesse Azuse

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The newer models are much better.

UPDATE 2: I replaced my unit under warranty. The VCR picture quality is now excellent. It's as good as any VCR I own. The tape counter now also works perfectly. The video recorder picture quality of the first unit I received was poor. UPDATE 1: I DEVELOPED AN ANNOUNCING CAUSE IN MY DEVICE. When playing back a tape recorded at SLP speed, the VCR sometimes plays it back in SP mode. This depends on which part of the tape you start playback from. When you rewind the tape, you can find a spot where it plays normally and then fast forward it. This is on old tapes that I have used many times. INITIAL REVIEW: For a budget device this is a good deal with good performance for the price. However, it doesn't have all the great features of a more expensive device. I really like the DVD player on this unit. It works much better than any of my other DVD players (maybe because it's newer). It recognizes DVD almost immediately. Jumping to different DVD functions (eg menus or different scenes) is very fast and without hiccups. I bought this DVD player because it plays VCDs. This is one of the few remaining DVDs that can play VCDs (ancient Asian format). It also plays CDRs. I haven't tried the different writable DVD formats yet. I'll let you know when I do. The remote control works very well. The system responds very quickly to the remote control. I've had other devices like Panasonic where the remote control wasn't as reliable. It has some neat features like skipping 30 seconds of ads and all the usual features like skipping to the last channel you watched. The menu is pretty easy to navigate. Programming a timer recorder is good and easy as I have seen with any device. This is certainly easier than with the Go, Pansonic or Zenith models. The VCR works great and has a good mechanism. Image quality is not very good when recording in SLP mode. Playing cassettes recorded in SLP (sometimes called EP) by other players, doesn't look that great when played back on Daewoo. I haven't tried the higher quality yet. Scan and slow-mo modes work well, although there's no speed selector. Some DVDs have a Composite Video or S-Video output. Like all DVD/VCR combos I've seen, composite video only works with DVD, not a VCR. If you have a TV with composite video inputs, connect the DVD part to it and then connect the VCR to a different input on your TV. On a TV, you can watch a DVD player using either the composite inputs or the VCR inputs. S-Video only works on a DVD player. With many other DVD/VCR combinations, S-Video will also work with a VCR/tuner (especially VCRs that can play SVHS tapes). I don't know why they can't convert the signal like this so everything can pass through the composite inputs. Being a cheap model, here are the features that aren't as good as the more expensive model: - When switched on. , it always switches to DVD mode first. I use a TV monitor and VCR more often, so this is a minor inconvenience. He changes modes very quickly. The remote control is not universal, so you cannot use it to control your TV. I could have used more audio output jacks, so I could connect it to both my stereo and my TV without using splitters. - Doesn't play SVHS tapes (I haven't actually tried it, so I don't know for sure). - The display per unit is very limited. When playing a VCR tape, only "PLAYING" is displayed, not the time or other information. Please note that I have done a lot of research on Revain for DVD/VCR combos. None of them received good reviews from readers. They all seemed to have reliability issues. Why is this? Maybe the DVD/VCR combos are so new that they're not reliable yet, or it's just the people who have trouble with them that bother to write reviews. In many reviews of different VCRs I see people complaining that you can't record in LP mode. LP is a medium quality setting that gives you 4 hours of recording time on tape. LP mode is no longer a popular option and is almost non-existent these days. Improvements to SLP or EP mode (6 hours per tape) have made LP mode obsolete.
