This bottle of shock cleaner arrived the same day we scheduled our septic tank cleaning - a great time to see what a product professional would think. I gave our husband a bottle to read and asked him a few questions and he said this was a good product for keeping the septic tank healthy. With all of the antibacterial cleaning products used in homes that flush down septic tanks—bleach, toilet cleaner, Lysol, hand and dish soap, body wash, etc.—septic tanks can struggle to maintain a productive bacterial colony for waste destruction. He said such products counteract effects that his services don't need as often, and adding them to a freshly cleaned tank is a great way to prime the bacteria ahead of time. It was nice to know that we didn't damage our sewage treatment plant as a result. Since there is no mention of how often the product should be used to treat a septic system, this was one of the questions we asked. His recommendation? Use a good monthly treatment to maintain good bacteria counts, use a shock treatment like this once a year to "speed it up", avoid using antibacterial products as much as possible, evacuate the reservoir every two or three years. left, I went in and poured it into one of the toilets. I was pleasantly surprised that there was no smell at all. We have used the monthly regimens in both small water soluble sachets and liquid form and have often been accompanied by a slight smell of sweaty shoes. The light blue color of this liquid was alarming, but left no residue on the bowl and didn't require multiple washes to ensure all liquid evaporated. It doesn't have a spray spout, so I highly recommend slowly pouring out the contents while holding the bottle close to the water in the toilet to avoid spills that can spread stain droplets. Such products are difficult to verify because you cannot actually watch the product do what it is supposed to do. These are not shampoos or baby wipes where you can see and feel instant results. We feel comfortable using this product having had it operated by a professional who has seen firsthand what happens when septic systems are not properly maintained. Repairing a septic tank is terribly expensive, especially if you need to replace the tank. And nobody wants to go back into their house through their septic system! A product like this is an effective and inexpensive way to avoid thousands of dollars in repairs. I can't give this five stars without knowing how things will change in a few years time when we can clean our aquarium again and test the results, but I feel comfortable recommending this product to prevent future problems .
