Revainrating 5 out of 5

Impeccable sound quality

Ooma is just amazing. I threw in two lines of AT&T U poetry for Ooma, saved about $40 a month, and have never looked back. The payback period for my equipment was 10 weeks. After that, my monthly savings turned into pure gravy. Ideal sound quality. Excellent support. The base unit of Ooma is called Telo. Ooma also sells proprietary phones, but these aren't necessary if you already have the hardware. Ooma works seamlessly with my Panasonic KX-TG6841 Dect 6 cordless phone with 5 handsets and no doubt many more. any other phone. Ooma can also record voice messages as text and forward them to your email account. I love this feature. You get 2 VOIP lines included with your Ooma purchase. They can be configured as two voice lines or one voice line and one fax line. If you want to use one of your Ooma lines as a fax line, you will need to add an Ooma Lynx device that provides wireless access to the onboard telecom jack. Simply plug your Lynx into an outlet near your fax machine, connect your fax line to the Lynx telecom port, set it up, and you're done. You can migrate existing numbers to your Lynx account. Ooma's support makes the process easy and painless. Call blocking is Ooma's strength. You can combine multiple methods to provide a lock that suits your needs. The first option filters calls using a national database of known telemarketing numbers. Second, Ooma maintains a subscriber database of registered spammers. Third, users can opt for the time-honoured NoMoRoBo service. Finally, you can keep a personal verification list that either excludes specific phone numbers or select area codes. You can also keep a personal whitelist that will override any call blocking exceptions you may have trouble with. Call logging is comprehensive, listing all incoming and outgoing calls by phone number (and caller ID if available). This is very useful for teleassistance providers like me who need to track customers' phone talk time for billing and/or performance tracking. I could go on, but I'll mention a few missing features and other issues to be aware of: Ooma comes in two flavors: a personal package and a business package. The Business plan lacks the robust call blocking options available in the Personal plan (what to do about that?). However, the Business package includes an auto attendant feature that is not available in the Personal package. Before you buy Ooma, you need to compare the business and personal options and decide which one suits you best, since they are completely independent and not interchangeable from both a hardware and software point of view. Ooma personal has no programming interface. That means it runs on the Telo device and Ooma servers, not on your computer. While you can save settings, contacts, and preferences, and view your logs and other features on your desktop, you do so on the Ooma website, not your local desktop. You cannot make or receive calls from your desktop, only from a Telo-connected phone device. Overall, Ooma is one of my smartest electronics purchases of 2015. I have to take Uma alone.
