First you need to install the software, it is on the supplied disk. Who still uses an optical drive? I had to rip out the old one to plug it into my computer. Annoying, but no big deal. Once the software was installed, you were good to go. The mini antenna picked up every channel around me, but I live in the city and their cell towers are nearby. A word of warning: the USB drive will get hot during use. Once it gets warm it just stays hot, the temp hasn't risen as far as I can tell. If there was some really soft plastic underneath (like cellophane) I would melt it, but I don't see it getting hot enough to be a fire hazard and not hot enough to burn your hands or anything. I gave it 4 stars. It's pretty cheap and has everything you need to watch OTA TV streams on your laptop. I deducted a star for the device heating up during use, but I just received it, so I can't speak about durability.
