Following the "Quick setup via web browser" instructions in the packaging, the device was ready to use in 5 minutes. I used different SSIDs for the extender's network. I get 60 Mbps downloads when the extender is right next to the router (either through the router or through the extender); After taking the extender outside to an outlet under a covered patio (about 75 feet from the router), you stand next to the extender and still get 60 Mbps from the router and only 20 Mbps from the extender. BUT! If you leave the power strip on the patio and move to a private garage about 75 feet from the house, you'll get 12 Mbps from the power strip, but only a very unreliable 3 Mbps directly from the router! As a test, I tried streaming video through an Xbox in a detached garage and everything was perfectly smooth. We used to have to store the Xbox on the stairs in front of the window, but now it can sit on a table with a TV console about 18 inches off the floor. Xbox warned that the connection might not be suitable for live gaming and offered to open a uPnP port number on my router, which I'll investigate further if my teens complain. :-) All in all a great success!
