One of my cats is very smelly and ruins the tray every time he uses it. I use Petsafe's Gentle White Odorless Crystals on their automatic trash can and it does a great job cleaning up the mess but nothing against the smell. I change the box every 10 days for 2 cats (expensive :/). They are picky and don't like lavender or regular crystals. I finally decided to try the baking soda method here along with a hand held and hammer sprayer and in tandem the odor is under control. Every 3 days I sprinkle some on the box, hit the calculate button and I have no more problems.
