Review on Hongdian Raw Brass Fountain Pen Extra Fine Nib Classic Design Smooth Writing Copper Pen With Converter And Pen Case Set by Cathy Khan

Good value pens, inconsistent nibs

I have several fountain pens for pen and ink drawing. I have been using Lamy's since the early 90's, but I'm always looking to explore other pens.I like these pens for the price and utility. I like the aluminum body, and I like that the pen includes a converter cartridge for the ink right from the start. I ordered two of these with Fine nibs. One worked well out of the box. Ink flows smoothly on most paper types and weight. The second pen was very scratchy, and ink would not flow through it easily, or would stop altogether. I exchanged it for another, and the replacement worked fine. I am using Noodlers Black Bulletproof ink. Due to the inconsistency in the nibs, and the flow rate of the Fine nib, I would not recommend an extra fine nib from this brand. If you can afford just a few dollars more, I would recommend a Lamy Safari over this, but you will need to also buy the converter. Expect to pay at least 30% more for the Lamy plus converter. I believe it's worth the extra price, but the pens here are a good budget pen.If you need to replace a nib from this brand, I could only find sets of EF, F, Bent. If you need a Lamy nib, all sizes are readily available individually (although almost the price of a full pen).
