I have a set of "History of Music" bookshelf speakers. About 11x8x4 and look like big books. The drivers began to fail, one in each speaker kicking and kicking. They fit perfectly and sounded great. I compared the sound of Old vs (1 Old & 1 New) vs New. The old, worn speakers sounded brighter but also had some rattling distortion. An old and a new sounded the best, but also had distortion from the old speaker. I ended up using all four, two per speaker, and calling out a little. The bass and mid-range are tight, and they can easily handle a whopping 10 watts. I also compared using a frequency sweep where the tweeter used to handle most of the mids and all of the highs. The old original 3" speakers started to disappear. Around 1000 Hz. These GRS 3FR-4 speakers do not attenuate up to 1400-1500 Hz. The crossover circuitry is the same, which means that older speakers cannot reproduce higher frequencies as efficiently. I have to say these are excellent speakers, especially for the price. :-)
