Review on Canon EOS R6 Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera + RF24-105mm F4-7.1 is STM Lens Kit, Black (4082C022): Capturing Brilliance with Precision and Versatility by Dean Locke

An excellent camera with a wonderful whale lens.

I received this camera a little over a week ago and took about 1,000 shots in various conditions with the kit lens and the L-series RF f/4 24-105mm lens that I used with a Canon RI camera, also own mine. I mainly shoot in JPG format and use RAW for complex images that may not give the best results when processed by the camera. R6 was bought to replace R. What's good: 1. The camera is comfortable to hold and easy to like.2. Autofocus is excellent with any lens. When photographing our 4 month old Standard Poodle puppies who never sat still, I was able to focus about 85% of the time compared to 65% with the Sony A7RIV and 50% with the Nikon Z7/Z6 with their equivalent lenses. 3. I compared the JPG output to my Sony A7RIV camera, which is a 60 megapixel camera, and preferred the JPG outside of the R6 camera for both color and sharpness. On my 2020 27" iMac, less than 66% pixels in the x2 image were not apparent on my 2020 27" iMac, which was surprising. 4. Silent shutter with amazing shutter speed in both electronic and mechanical modes. The result is indistinguishable from the constant f/4 RF lens I have (in-camera correction is a wonderful thing). It's slow at the maximum focal length (105mm, f7.1), but that's only affecting low light conditions and R6. has a dynamic range and a sensor low enough in noise not to disturb high ISOs.The only reason not to use this lens regularly is the lack of weather protection and variable aperture throughout the focal range.6. Sensor stabilization is excellent. I took pictures with a shutter speed of 1 second and got great results. solid enough but doesn't feel like it's cut from a solid piece of steel that the other 3 have time to make. It doesn't look like a nearly $3,000 camera. The thumb joystick is too far left and I often missed it until I got used to it.3. With the multifunction wheel on the back, the focus point cannot be moved, only rotated. I miss being able to press one side of the wheel to navigate to a function or move the starting focus point.4. The resolution of 20 MP is sufficient if you don't take close-up photos. You'll soon run out of decent resolution, though not as quickly as you'd expect. I often use the crop function on my higher resolution cameras instead of a good zoom. The lack of a decent constant f/4 aperture from 70 to 200 in the RF lens range. I use my trusty old f/2.8 EF 70-200 with adapter, it's a heavy lens! An equivalent RF f/2.8 70-200 lens would be great and means I can always take this camera with me (don't want to spend money on f/2.8 and want something more compact). A whale lens with no lens hood or body that comes with a $2,800 camera seems a bit cheap to me. The f/4-7.1 kit lens is not weatherproof.7. There are no cables for charging the camera, etc., which are otherwise included with cameras in this price range. Summary: 1. I love this camera and have an order for the R5 which may solve some mounting and resolution issues. I don't regularly use these cameras for video (my iPhone 11 Pro Max is very good and can "shoot" for over 30 minutes without stopping (EU laws) or overheating). I have never experienced an overheating problem.2. The kit lens is way better than it could be at this price point. The camera makes good use of more expensive glass.4. The resolution is low (for framing) but not deadly. Look at the result, not the numbers, and you'll be amazed at how good this sensor is. It's an excellent camera, beating the Sony A7III and Nikon Z6 in almost every important respect. It also competes with the Sony A7RIV and Nikon Z7, although it has a lower resolution. Recommendation: buy. I downgraded it 1 star because it's an expensive camera with obvious cost savings that reduces ease of use.
