I don't know if this product will suit every cat but it has definitely helped mine. I'm going to write a bit of background because I was really very skeptical about this product and only tried it as a last resort to avoid bringing my cat home or putting her to sleep. In my house, this has truly been a miracle product. I have a cat that comes from a multi-cat family. The other cats wouldn't let her eat or use the litter box. She was emaciated and urinating on the carpet in her previous home. Her owners didn't need another litter box, so they took her to the vet for euthanasia. That didn't happen. I didn't want a cat, but I couldn't have her put down because of someone else's stupidity either, so I brought her home. This was 3 years ago and after peing on the carpet a few times we found a litter box spot where the cat felt safe and would use her litter box reliably as long as everything in the house remained normal and unchanged. However, she was a very shy cat and would run away from everyone except me and one of my three dogs. My husband and teenage son could not get close to the cat and visitors to the house were never aware of its existence. Unfortunately, given the cat's origins, she really was something of a special snowflake. Any change in the environment would cause discomfort, and eventually she would seek the corner of the hallway upstairs or the corner of the playroom and pee on the carpet. However, incidents were relatively rare because our house was fairly quiet and our schedules were fairly regular. I don't think she even peed on the carpet after the first year. In October we did not start a major renovation of our master bathroom and toilet. Almost immediately, the cat in the upper corridor began to urinate along the entire wall. Urine was dripping under the baseboard and my hands were a real mess. I was beside myself trying to get rid of the smell. Every time I thought I was succeeding, she moved to a different place. I spend hundreds of cleaning supplies and a new better steam cleaner. I eventually found a solution that actually worked, but it meant my carpet was pretty damp, covered in baking soda, and was peeling off the wall for at least a week. At this point, I resorted to keeping the cat locked in "her room" until the smell was gone and the carpet was dry. It was a terrible situation. I felt terrible for locking her up, but I didn't want to risk her finding another room to get dirty because I might have to replace the carpet already. She cried for hours to get out and although I went in and paid attention to her I obviously couldn't sit in one room all day. I was really at the point where I had to think about taking the cat back to the vet and let them decide what to do. I had a similar situation with another cat at the time and already swore "no more cats" after that cat died (of old age). So in complete desperation I decided to try Feliway because I didn't really know what it was. what to do other than return the cat. (And I love the cat very much. She is a very sweet and loving animal.) I locked her in the room, but I connected a diffuser. A day later, she stopped crying as much. After 2 days I took off the diffuser and took it to the upstairs hallway (where she peed). Keep in mind that this is all happening while we are renovating, so strangers are constantly coming and going. After the specified time had passed and the product had dissolved properly (2 days I think) I released the cat. She hasn't peed anywhere in the house since we started using Feliway. In fact, he seems to have done much more. I could swear this cat had a personality transplant. She's stopped hiding upstairs. She allows my son to take her in his arms and caress her in a way that has never been done before. The most remarkable thing is that she comes out when there are strangers in the house. She is very curious about renovations and now enjoys sitting in the bathroom door and watching what the handymen are doing. She has a special affection for one of the plumbers, and one day she flopped down on the bed and let him pet her. I was shocked! She became so friendly as if she had a completely different cat. Now she's more talkative and playful, just more relaxed overall. Our renovation goes on (and on and on) and now she sits on the stairs to see who comes and goes when people are around. Her favorite plumber will be back next week and I'm sure she'll be happy to see him.
