Our Wii console has been on the table for a few months since we bought a new model TV. For some reason the A/V connection never worked with the new TV. Based on the reviews, it was worth a try. Read the instructions, connect the cables and turn on the Wii. Back in business. Since then, the family has used it almost every day. In terms of picture and sound quality, the picture isn't as sharp as on new game consoles, but it's still good. Depending on your TV and its picture settings, you may get different results. There is no difference in sound quality. I would advise you to get new HDMI cables for this as it can make a difference.
