This is my first experience with a solar powered solid state toothbrush. First, you need an AAA battery to operate. Second, you need some kind of light source for the ionic part to work. Artificial light works well. I find it very odd that the warnings include "do not use or store in the bathroom" since most people brush their teeth in the bathroom. I was hesitant to wet it after reading this, but the brush stem needs to be filled with water to work properly. I keep my toothbrush in a tall frosted glass window in my bathroom so it gets solar energy and stays out of the water, except for the water it needs to work, of course. I've had battery, corded, rechargeable, non-rechargeable, sonic, and regular toothbrushes and expected this one to be similar. It's similar... but different. I can't explain the difference other than saying you use this toothbrush like any other toothbrush, but the feeling is different. After use, the entire mouth becomes cleaner. I have 6 other electric toothbrushes that I use and this one is just...cleaner. I don't know what it's like, but I'm telling you, it just works better. There is only one button that controls power and speed. I only use standard mode because it seems to be more efficient than any other brushes I have, so I don't see a need to use high mode. I expect my dental hygienist will be happy on my next visit because I no longer feel any hard pressing when brushing. I can rub it gently on my teeth and still feel squeaky afterwards. In terms of value, the body, stand and brush head are very slim. The only thing I don't like is that for $90 you only get a toothbrush and 1 head. And of course, the attachment is specific to this case, so it cannot be replaced with other attachments. However, 4-pack and 8-pack replacement brush heads are available from the Soladey Store for between $15.99 and $33.99, depending on bristle size and characteristics. In addition, the hardness of the bristle 1 of the supplied nozzle is described as "normal" on the product page. I think in this case normal means medium. I love the toothbrush but would hesitate to recommend it to a friend without disclosure. The bathroom warning leads me to believe that this toothbrush is susceptible to explosion or electrocution, but hopefully not as I have no plans to stop production. If he dies in a year I would hesitate to spend $89.99 to replace him because of the risk factor. I also don't like it when my toothbrush is hanging on my windowsill. But! Every morning, my teeth feel as clean as if they just came from the dentist's office, with no annoying scratches.
