I recently assembled a new computer and wanted to have a small second monitor that could be used as a kind of "workstation". Turns out I had this thing just laying around in the garage so I plugged it in. However, I think I bought this quite a while ago because there were only a few boxes on top. But it was. However, I simply did not have the right spare cables and plugs on hand. So I built a PC and also wanted to use a smaller screen. "Whatever." But once it worked and I had "tweaked" it to my "satisfaction" I wanted to hook up this little spare monitor. But like I said, I just didn't have the right cables, and this old Compaq monitor only had one input, the old standard "VGA" HDMI connector. I have a couple of cables that fit correctly, but those cables just end up on the other end of the VGA and I couldn't connect it anywhere as my graphics card (1070) didn't have that connector. What it has is a bunch (maybe four) of DisplayPort (DP) and a standard HDMI was used up because that graphics card only had a standard HDMI port and this larger screen took it up. So I had to free up some DP ports, but that meant I had to convert those DP ports to HDMI. (I know it's a bit confusing.) Now that I saw them, I thought they were just what I needed. And I ordered them, they came in a few days, and this old display worked perfectly for me, no problems! While I haven't tested them to see if they work with a 4K monitor, I can't say. I'm sure they will work, but I haven't been able to get hold of them yet. (Later I plan to see if 4K works with it as I already HAVE a 40" 4K monitor that I'm not currently using. But to be honest I don't think 4K is really necessary, I have yet to checking just to know for sure And actually I think 4k will eventually become the standard but at this point I think it still needs time because 4k takes a lot of bandwidth and it's not "friendly" when 4K monitor but I'll take care of that once things settle down. The 'nice touch' is that they're ACTIVE, this is important again due to bandwidth issues. Looks like they're on there coming to the top where HDMI gave up, price was right, they seem to have done VERY well and just been nice if I run into any compatibility issues in the future, so it easily gets 5 stars from me for doing exactly what they do Definitely reko recommended.
