Review on Casablanca Panama Indoor Ceiling Fan - Enhanced with Remote Control for Superior Performance by Adrian Woodside

I bought this fan after much searching and a few annoying false starts and am very happy with it. Construction, fit and finish are excellent; The difficulty of installation is the same as most other ceiling fans and the instructions are clear and top notch. It moves a lot of air, and the motor and mechanism are absolutely silent. The remote control is fully functional, including back and forth. The controller has a peculiarity: if you start the fan after turning it off (or turning off the power), you need to start it at high speed, let it accelerate, and then reduce the speed to the desired setting. From now on you can change the speed as you like. However, when you try to run (or change direction) at low speed, the fan speed "scrolls", speeding up and slowing down, but doesn't settle into a constant speed. I know that controlling the speed of a DC motor is more difficult than an AC motor, but this seems like a marginal engineering project. Since we let the fan run at a constant speed for an extended period of time, this feature doesn't bother us much and everything else about the product deserves five stars. The mount comes with a fan. The Casablanca product sheet says one is 'available' and I've spent quite a bit of time trying (unsuccessfully) to find it. was very happy to see him in the box! UPDATE: Motor bearings are noisy and starting to fail after 8 years of continuous low RPM use. A bit disappointing given Casablanca's "lifetime" claims, but the warranty service was outstanding. I called Casablanca customer service and after a two minute conversation the agent turned in the paperwork to replace the fan. It was dispatched the same day after I sent them an invoice for the original fan and I received it two days later along with a prepaid return label for the defective unit. Back in business in just four days. I have downgraded the fan rating from 5 to 4 stars but would like to thank Casablanca for the great customer service.
