The sole reason I've opted to write a review is because I recently purchased a Samsung laptop for security purposes. It came to my attention that the disk is quite warm. The disk itself is not at all to blame for the heating; like all of its counterparts, it only heats up very slightly when it is spinning at 5400 revolutions per minute. With the placement of the disk underneath the chipset on the motherboard, and even that was given the responsibility of acting as an additional heat sink by having a thermal pad placed underneath it. One could consider this particular technical decision to be a distraction directed at hard drive makers. When subjected to temperatures of 55 degrees, it is only natural for a disk of this kind to have a lifespan of no more than two years at most. It has been known since the beginning of time that heating something hard to a temperature higher than 50 degrees will shorten its lifespan. In addition, the hard disk of any brand will fail if it overheats, regardless of the company that made it. This is independent of the manufacturer. Naturally, on this particular laptop, I removed the hard drive from the motherboard. After removing the thermal pad and bending the ears of the disk mounting basket, I was able to reduce the temperature to below 48 degrees. So, you should run a diagnostic tool on your computer to determine the thermal mode that your disk is operating in. I am able to state with absolute certainty that every one of the unfavorable review was published by the owner of a laptop computer in which the disk was situated underneath the motherboard and became really hot.
