Review on 🎧 Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro: Superior Over-Ear Studio Headphones for Professionals by Deelo Sylvester

Bought in 2014. I still like it very much. I use the APO equalizer in combination with REW to equalize all headphones. I've found that all headphones, no matter how expensive, have some frequency response issues. Based on the REW software analysis, I set the parametric EQ to the correct frequency response. A little bit of science and a little bit of art. The goal is for the headphones to sound inviting and realistic, insightful but not tiring. Sound quality: bass. Like most open-back headphones, they're not designed for bass heads. Low frequencies are present, but don't have a noticeable effect on closed-back headphones like the ATH-M50. Low frequencies drop off after around 30 Hz. It helps boost low frequencies below 100Hz (3-4dB). It still produces a different kind of bass. It's tight, open bass, in contrast to the ATH-M50's powerful but perhaps slightly imprecise "boom" sound. It's like a movie-tuned subwoofer and a big speaker. Both can get quiet, but sound different. Mids are good. Flat frequency response and pleasant sound. high frequencies. My headphones have a range of 5kHz to 9kHz. Decreasing this setting will help the cymbals and "S” sound more natural. It also helps reduce fatigue. The soundstage is wide and well defined. The music seems open and airy. The speed of dynamic drivers is good. The sound is tight, detailed and precise. It's not as good as the Focal Elegia but better than the ATH-M50. The soundproofing is very low, you can hear everything. The wearing comfort is incomparable. There are no build quality issues. The cable is not detachable. To operate the DT880 (250 ohm version) you need a good power amplifier. They sound punchier and more detailed when given enough power. I think the DT880 is among the best headphones on the market under $400.
