I have a small auto repair shop and this scanner is the main scanner we use. It's so easy to use that even people with little diagnostic experience can figure it out quickly. Efficiency varies by vehicle make and model, so the same level of performance cannot be expected for every vehicle. For example, you can't revise on a Ford Ecoboost, but you can on some Chryslers from the same era. There's not much you can do with Ford safety systems either, but if you're running a Ford 6.0 diesel engine it has a few features that can help you pinpoint problems. It also fits many GM models very well, but not many older Japanese makes and models. For example, I couldn't get it to communicate with the module that controls the sliding doors on a 2001 Honda Odyssey, but I was able to reset the system by disconnecting the car's battery. I feel like I should have done this with a scanner. Of course, you'll get new updates almost every day, so your options will change frequently. usually for the better, but sometimes not. Once an update made it impossible for me to draw power balance tests. I was still able to turn off the cylinders but the graph stayed a straight line. Other hiccups were that if the battery was ever completely drained the scanner was very difficult to turn back on and the battery would not charge unless the scanner was powered on at the first power setting. For this reason I returned the scanner within the one year warranty period and Autel complied. The biggest problem was that they wanted me to send the scanner to them for repair and they said it would take about a month. Well, this month I'll be going without my most used tool in the shop. Luckily, the dealer I used honored the manufacturer's warranty and helped me not to go without a scanner. It's difficult to connect to printers, but there are workarounds for that and the customer support is great and very helpful. With your permission, they can access the tool remotely and download the necessary drivers to work with the wireless printer. Overall, this is a system that is still growing and learning, but in the right hands it can be a very useful tool and pay for itself in a short time. My buddy has a new Matco scanner and it doesn't perform much better than this one. The 2 times I failed with this scanner, I took him to his shop and he encountered the same hurdles. I would recommend this scanner overall, but don't expect it to be flawless. Sometimes it will stall, but money can fix these problems when they arise.
