Wipe Clean First
After the bulb "came on", I could detect a distinct "burnt smell" which is very similar to what you feel when the heater is first started after it was turned off all summer. I tried to wipe off all the dust I could find before installing the lamp assembly. This lasted about 30-45 minutes and then disappeared.
