I had to use a drill with a hole saw to make a hole large enough to complete the assembly. If you don't have the tools and the quality checkers don't do well, you won't be able to complete the build. Hopefully this was just a rare occurrence and everyone else won't have this problem. My cat loves to sit and sleep on the top platform but shows no interest in the other levels. The surface is soft and apart from a lax quality control, the item was easy to assemble. The base is too small to properly balance the item so I put some free weights on the base to keep it from tipping over when my cat gets on or off. The design isn't very good, but it could easily be modified with a larger base or extra weight, like I did. I would not recommend this product unless you are willing or able to use tools or accessories to make minor changes or adjustments. I was lucky that I had everything I needed to complete the build and weigh it down.
