Review on ๐Ÿพ Vetoquinol Renal K+ Potassium Supplement Powder | For Dogs and Cats | 3.5oz Size by Beth Brooks

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Helped increase potassium levels in non-CKD cats - it's MUCH better than a gel!

One of my cats needs a yearly blood test to make sure her kidneys are working properly. She does not have CKD (chronic kidney disease) but takes two heart medications. Neither is a diuretic, but her cardiologist wants us to just monitor kidney function because heart and kidney problems can go hand in hand. Luckily her kidneys are working, but her potassium levels were low. I asked our resident vet what could be causing the low number and she said it only happens sometimes. Well, we were 'prescribed' Renal K, but the only choice the vet had was tablets (horse tablets) or gel. I chose the gel because while I can easily prepare a pill for a cat, I didn't want to try a pill the size of my fingertip! The gel has a pungent syrupy smell. I knew she wouldn't like it straight out of the tube, and I was right. I managed to get them to do it with strong smelling fish food, but nothing more. Since I change her food every day, I needed a different option. That's where I found the powder. It's MUCH better than gel and lasts MUCH longer! The powder still has a strong smell, but it's more fishy than sweet. And I'm happy to report that her potassium levels are back to normal after replacing the powder.
