All pixels on. At one end of the light strip is a plug that you plug directly into a power source. The other end ends with a short red/black wire if you want to connect it to another strip. The glue is pretty sticky. Good value for money for light and power supply. The dimmer worked but you had to be close enough to the receiver. I ended up not using it. There is a slight delay in turning on the wall switch and turning on this light strip. UPDATE: The light strips are out of service after 6 months. They are very dark and do not respond to the remote control. LED lamps are not economical if they cost more and then fail within a short period of time. Now the transformer, tapes and plugs are sent to the landfill. Wouldn't recommend these.
