Review on 🎧 Black Replacement Earpads for Audio-Technica M-Series Headphones - HP-EP by Shari Smith

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Instructions are *very* simplified, much more difficult to install on MT-50x

I have had Audio Technica MT-50x headphones for 6 years. I love her. The headphone cushions were falling apart so I bought these replacement earbuds as they were Audio Tecnica's own merchandise. What they don't tell you is that a wide range of headphones will support them, but they're not an identical replacement for what originally came equipped. They're a good half inch (if not a full inch) smaller and not nearly as thick. That being said, the real reason I'm writing this is the horrible instructions - it's just 3 simple steps: 1) Remove the existing pads. OK except that when I pulled as instructed the rubber material broke rather than came out because it was glued in, obviously not meant to be replaced. 2) If you are using the old MT-40x headphone foam pad, ignore it) 3) Install the new headphone pad in the gap where the previous headphone was placed, making circular twisting motions. Much luck. The slot you need to squeeze the thing into is half a millimeter wide and one millimeter deep. The liner liner (which you need to insert into the gap) has a length of over 2 centimeters available. I had to (partially) disassemble the headphones by removing the retaining clip that holds the earbuds fully assembled with friction. However, there is less than a millimeter of clearance to install the clip and if you wrap the lining too far the clip will not attach. I was able to get everything working by barely wrapping the new lining around the edge of the clip. (so that it is in the gap) and that the bottom part of the clip is attached to the headphone. Took me an hour which should have been 5 minutes.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Almost everything ok
