We have a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica mini van with a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. It has a small capacity (15 hp) and a larger than average size (it's a mini-van!). We've loved this van for the last two years, although we haven't driven it much - about 8,000 miles in two years with both of us. years old minibus. With one adult working from home/airport and another making a 6 mile round trip and three children walking distance from school, distance was never a factor. When we saw a plug-in minivan that could go 30 miles with the engine running, the choice was easy! It's almost a week of our needs! So what do we care about charge time or a level 2 charger? This is a complex statement that took us two years to resolve. In the summer, the Level 1 charger doesn't like our garage - it overheats quickly. Typical charges can last up to 12 or 14 hours, which means all night - a level 2 device will flash "overheated" every time the garage is over 95 (June-August). On the other hand, in winter, "preheating" the van would help if it could benefit from the hourly energy. I have yet to test it (installed June 2021) but I've read that charged Tier 2 vehicles can use the charger to preheat the passenger compartment. If you ride on a battery in cold weather, the battery will drain like crazy until the heater can generate warm air (below 35 degrees, riding a mile can increase performance fivefold). So this year we wanted to solve both problems: overheating. L1 summer charger and plug-in parking heater for winter driving. (Technical notes: We're a solar-powered, grid-tied car. It should also work for hill climbs when the battery is below 80 percent. We usually turn the AC off for short rides, only turn it on for long ones, and have noticed that the cooling is much less electricity than heat. We more than paid for the car in tax breaks and pay less than $100 for fuel and zero for electricity (minus the cost of solar, which is paid and free) for two years. Then again, I I'm not a vehicle engineer, and I guess they make their paycheck knowing more than my only car taught me).
