A few years ago my audio consultant told me that I needed a voltage regulator and that I could hear a difference in my audio system. I was skeptical then, and I was still skeptical when I revisited the concept recently. My audio/video system has a total of 14 (!) devices that require power and I was looking for a way to tidy up the tangled power cords. I was also intrigued by the idea of a more sophisticated (and hopefully reliable) surge protector. In the end, I decided it was worth the investment, if only for these fairly mundane tasks. I took the plunge and bought a Furman Elite-15 PF, which I didn't expect would improve the sound of the system. The Furman is an impressive machine, much heavier and stronger than I thought it would be. Installation was easy, although it took some time due to the inevitable rerouting of numerous cables. Once installed, the Furman ran without making any noise or generating any noticeable heat. So far, so good. The real surprise came when I sat down and listened to my stereo with Furman. I've been using my system for some time now and many hours of careful listening have made me very familiar with its sound, particularly with certain recordings. So I was very surprised a few minutes after hearing it for the first time when I said I noticed that the sound was different. The dynamic has become more pronounced. The hint of harshness I previously felt in certain parts of some recordings seems to have gone. Everything sounded a little faster, cleaner and cleaner. Subsequent sessions have reinforced that first impression, and I have to grudgingly admit that I think my stereo sounds noticeably better with the Furman on than without it. I should point out that my house was built in 1960 and has an odd layout and is old and the wiring is a bit suspect. If you live in a relatively new house with more logical wiring, you might not hear a difference in your system. It's also possible that I've convinced myself I'm hearing something that isn't there, even though I'm so cynical about miracle cures like conditioners that I don't believe it. Either way, that's a great thing. Devices that definitely work as advertised. I don't want the retractable LED tubes on the front, but otherwise this is a serious and serious piece of hardware that deserves your attention.
