Amazing e-reader in tablets

Yesterday I received an early Christmas present from my wife Rachel. I've always been an avid reader, usually several books a week. I've been using e-readers since the first 10 inch Kindle came out a long time ago. Since then I've used several Kindles and earlier this year a Kobo Forma. They were all good, especially Kobo, but none of them were really satisfied. So far: I now have an Onyx Boox Max Lumi. When I opened my first book about this beast, I was speechless. Rachel laughed at me because silence is not normal for me. The screen is 13.3 inches, imagine two ordinary 10 inch tablets side by side. As far as I can tell, the display quality is perfect. The software is fast and smooth, stock Android 10. It just works! I love good engineering, it's brilliant engineering! This is the best e-book I've ever seen. It's expensive, but if you can afford it and read as much as I do, then it's worth it. It's large, the display is the size of a standard sheet of paper, and it's lightweight, about the size of a medium-sized paperback. I installed several apps, NY Times, Washington Post etc and they work fine. I then installed the Caliber companion app to see if the Lumi would connect to my Caliber book library over WiFi. After permission was given to the application, it connected and worked for the first time. Very impressive! I've only had Lumi for a few days and I still have a lot to learn as this thing is very powerful. People who see it primarily as a means of reading books won't be intimidated by the variety of features available. I was able to download the book and start reading within minutes. Kindle is an app on the Lumi so you can read the books you already have or get new ones that way if you want. When you're ready to explore other features, there are plenty of YouTube videos to help you, and most things seem pretty intuitive. At this size. Lumi isn't the kind of e-reader you stuff in your purse or backpack, but if you enjoy reading at home and your eyes are starting to age, then this is Nirvana. This monster will make my time during the pandemic much more enjoyable as I escape to alternate worlds with my new favorite technology and no design flaws to ruin my allure. Well done Onyx!

Pros
  • Useful for more than it's intended purpose
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine
