About half a year. A few weeks ago, my 2019 iMac's fan started spinning high and LOUDLY upon waking up with windows minimally open. I reset my SMC/NVRAM three times (once with Apple Genius). I checked Activity Monitor closely for excessive performance or CPU usage issues, but nothing. Run Apple Diagnostics, fan was fine. Also, the air coming out of the fan* was cool. *Then I read about faulty Thunderbolt peripherals that could cause the fan to overdrive. Since I disabled most of the hard drives, I knew they weren't. But the hub was on all the time - no power button - even when the computer was asleep. Thinking this might be the culprit, I unplugged it, reconnected 4 drives/RAID G-Tech TBs to a TB port, and powered my second USB-C>HDMI monitor directly from the 2nd TB port, the hub was connected to (I used to use the HDMI port on the hub). Run everything including all 4TB/RAID drives and a second monitor. And you know what? The fan doesn't work. mouse still. Ten Chrome windows open: nothing. 5 Capture One Pro windows open: nothing (I have 64GB RAM). Simply clean and quiet. So beware buyers: as I said, it worked fine for 6 months, but there is no power switch to turn it off when not in use. I didn't consider it a functional bug at first, but I'm now convinced that this dodgy peripheral was the cause of my excessive fan stress and other possible current issues. AVOID
