I received this to replace an old WD external drive that has failed. Rugged IPX7 case for $25, reasonable prices for both. I use it as an offline backup of my online backup from my Google Drive (there are always redundant backups of important data), so speed isn't as important as reliability. The drive will eventually fail, like all drives, but I intend to reuse the case when it does. By then there will likely be higher speed ports, but since this is for archival storage USB3 will be with me for a very long time as long as SATA drives are available. Modern 2TB drives don't draw much power, so the build is fully USB powered. As far as I know, the case cannot be powered from an external source.
