I recently purchased these and tested them almost immediately upon receipt. I have to say I was a bit wary based on some of the reviews but as these were old reviews I was hoping the manufacturer would address the concerns raised in the reviews. The first thing I noticed was that the internal threads weren't always as smooth as they should be. No problem, I ordered a set of 4-48 taps complete with rods. The first thing I did was check the internal threads of a pair of connecting rods with a bottom tap. I didn't think they were so much rough as just unrefined. Not so much as I ordered a set of faucets. Then I took the tip of my Fowler dial gauge and screwed it into each of the extensions and held them very well. I then screwed each of the rods into the same Fowler dial gauge. This is where I ran into a few problems. 2 rods didn't really want to be screwed in. They will go in, but the strands need to be aligned exactly that way, and it takes a bit of wiggling to get them started properly. Under magnification, the lead thread on both rods is slightly dented. creates a bond. A little thread cleaning with some reasonable pressure and a needle file solved the problem. The diameter of the bars appears to be very close, although not exact, to the Fowler indicator. But for the price there is nothing to complain about. The case is very good. Molded plastic with real hinge. Might not last a lifetime, but better than most these days. There are some very slight signs of rough handling on the bars, but again this was visible under magnification. The only real problem I've had is with the external threads. Aside from the unpolished/crumpled threads mentioned above, the fit could be significantly better. I base this statement on the original clue going through the indicator. About 1/2 way through it gets tight and fits very well even without tightening. These poles are well dressed, but they're pretty sloppy in display. Make sure you tighten them properly to ensure accuracy. Overall this is a great product for the money if used properly.
