I bought these shorts to complement my upcoming Halloween costume - I plan to become a victim of Jack the Ripper in the haunted house I work in and put together an extravagant burlesque -Ensemble to attract attention and get noticed. I found the XL to be perfect for me although I would have preferred a lower fit as I have fairly short hips but tucking in the waist to get a lower fit should be easy enough. I have a 39" waist and 53" hips and both have enough room for a taller person so the sizes are comfortable and generous. I have trouble wearing an elastic at the waist as it usually causes uncomfortable pressure and back pain, but the elastic is thin enough that I haven't had any issues. The lace ruffles run from the top of the thigh to the bottom as shown in the picture, making your skirts easy to slip over the top of your shorts as they are silky in that area. The tag is actually on the outside not the inside so I was confused for a moment although this could be coincidence for my pair. I would happily buy these shorts in other colors in the future if I need them as the value for money is excellent. The seams are even, the fabric is dense. I don't have to worry about the tip being itchy because it's on the outside and doesn't touch my skin. I highly recommend these shorts if you are looking for ruffled lace shorts.
