It works really well and saves you the hassle of oil fillers. Runs on one AA battery. I don't know much about shelf life as I haven't had it very long but it seems to be at least as good as the bottled plugins and I don't see what could be worse. The only thing I don't like is that there is a hissing sound every time he presses the sprayer on the aerosol can. I live in a one-room apartment and I can be heard well. The battery is included. The setting switch has an on/off position and 3 positions to set how often you want to spray. When sprayed, it takes less than a second. It's not difficult to open the dispenser and insert an aerosol can, it's easy to put the battery in and turn it on, and the dispenser isn't ugly for what it is. I would buy this again. I think I'll enjoy it more than messing around with spare refills.
